Frozen pumpkins and seed germination

My fall decorative pumpkins were left out when we had some very cold weather and froze solid for several days. When I brought them inside they were like blocks of ice. After thawing, the pumpkins collapased into piles of mush. I wondered if the seeds would still germinate: I've usually figured if seeds froze when they were not dried that they were dead. Well, I took the frozen seeds and let them lay out on the counter and dry for 2 months. (Actually I kinda forgot they were there) Then I did the paper towel germination test.

Surprise! Surprise! Twelve out of fifteen seeds germinated in less than a week. Maybe the other three will still sprout, too. I guess in the future I will not give up on seeds just because they froze while wet.
