You probably should check with your area Extension Service, or Master Gardeners for more info about the soil, and anything you should use to amend it. Otherwise, just plant and see what happens! You won't know if you don't try!

I don't think there should be a problem growing them and I just found out there is a local(15 miles away)gourd society.

How cool that you asked my question! I so want to grow gourds to make birdhouses. I only have a yard on a steep slope. Am hoping to grow them up the deck supports.

We've visited your lovely state. As I recall, most yards are steep slopes. Your gourds should love it.
