I have some Heirloom Giant Gourd seeds and many years ago I read that they must go through a process.... I think it was called "stratification"?
I have about 16 seeds, and am trying to germinate as many as possible, so as to have seed to share.
Could anyone tell me the best way to get these seeds to germinate Please?

Egg Gourds, aka Egg Semlins are actually a wild inedible pumpkin (C. pepo).

However most, if not all giant gourds are varieties of Calabash (L. siceraria). Calabash seeds need stratification, which basically means that the seeds need to be frozen for 3-4 weeks before planting. Some seeds require this because they need to "know" that it is spring season. If the seeds don't freeze, they won't "know" what time of year it is.

To stratify seeds, wet a paper towel and squeeze out most of the water. Fold the seeds into the paper towel and place in a ziplock bag and stick in the freezer for 3-4 weeks. Take the seeds out of the freezer and plant them in dirt (preferably composted manure), whether it is in pots if starting transplants, or outside after all danger of frost is past.
