Pumpkins are generally pretty enthusiastic plants and grow readily in most areas. Give them reasonable soil and a reasonable amount of water and they'll almost always repay you generously with vigorous vines and healthly fruit.

I can't recommend any specific variety, but I'd think that any medium-sized, jack-o-lantern type would be likely to suit your purposes well. You can ask at your local farm supply store about local favorites that do well in your area.

How much room have you got?? How big or how many pumpkins do you want?? What color or shape do you want?? Do you want to eat them, display them, both. I know--lots of questions. For smaller pumpkins, I'd go with Small Sugar--very dependable, cute, and delicious. For a larger carving size, good old Connecticut Field or Howden are pretty darn reliable. There are, however, literally dozens of hybrid varieties. Don't forget to eat the flowers and seeds too.

Jack-be-little pumpkins are perfect for kids. They are small and prolific which means you can easily grow them up against a fence or trellis for support if you don't have room to let them sprawl. Best of all, they are actually a very tasty little pumpkin if you get tired of them as decorations.
