I believe that the gourd you are looking at is either a bushel gourd or a kettle gourd. Hard to tell.

Where you talking about the gourd shown on the Wellburn website? The one with the super thick shell at the very top of the page? If so, it is pictured again a little further down the page and it says it's a canteen gourd. It talks a little bit about the shell thickness next to the picture.

I checked out that other website and those gourds are amazing! Thanks for sharing that with us. I never thought of using colored pencils on a gourd. I'm definitely going to try that one. Too bad I just gave all of my colored pencils to my neices. :\

I certainly didn't realize that people put as much work into decorating gourds either. It really encourages you to try decorating them. Of course, colored pencils means that it would be an inside gourd, too. But, they were all gorgeous.

The caption under the photo down the page says Canteen. I'm thinking she feeds her gourds extra bone meal that could acount for the thickmess, also could be from saving the seeds from the gourds with the trates wanted year after year. Most likely both or seeds from a lucky find. Maybe.
