Newbie 'gourdhead' questions

I've crafted w/ gourds for years. Now I would like to try growing some different types. The area I have in mind is along side my shed...about 12 ft long. I can make the bed as wide as needed, but will have to be raised as packed red clay/sand is jackhammer tough. Gets sun most of day. Would like to plant different varieties in same bed. Maybe 'birdhouse', loofah, ladel and the small funky ones you buy in the fall for table decorations. Heck,I want everything I see really! I live near Park seed, so have quick access to seed. Any problems w/cross pollination of these varieties? Any tips for soil admenments, fertilization, etc. that you guys use to get best results. I've read alot of your posts, one about stratization(freezing seed), Any other tips in that area? I've gardened 20plus yrs. perrenials & veggies but have been scared of causing widespread gourd slaughter! I can grow crookneck squash, but sadly, pumpkins come to my yard to die...don't know why... LOL Thanks, Judy
