Help! Pyrography on Gourds...

I have been looking at some pictures of people burning designs on gourds, and have become very interested in this. I am COMPLETELY knew to this method (I've probably used the wrong words about it already)and would like to learn as much as possible about it. Can anyone help? I paint on gourds using Delta Ceramcoat paint. Does this paint work good after burning too? I saw one site where they used Colored Pencils for getting in the nooks and crannies. What is the best thing to use to do the actual burning (model wise)? As you can see i just need all around help! Thanks!

Most folks begin with an inexpensive wood burner, and those can be found at WalMart, Sears, and other hobby and craft stores. You'll probably find them starting at $10-$25. Other than that, you should look at a few websites, such as Turtlefeathers, or The Caning Shop.
You can use any paints, pencils or dyes, etc. after woodburning.
