Anyone else plant Pumpkins early to avoid rainy season?

3 years ago I started growing my Pumpkins out of a greenhouse to get a jump on the season and avoid having them flower in August when we get wet weather in the NE. Last year didn't work out as planned because we had a very wet June. However I'm sticking to the plan. 2 years ago I had about 8-10 decent size pumpkins in a backyard garden. Last year because of the June rains I only had one 40-50 pounder.

Anyone else try to cheat mother nature a bit?

I'm a little late in my cheating though. I need some more plastic. What I do is fashion a teepee or lean to greenhouse over the hills. Just want to make sure the soil is kept warm until the weather outside is warm enough.
