Since there seems to be no way to edit the post I am posting a follow-up post. It MAY have been that we had all MALE flowers and only a couple of female flowers...my husband and I can't seem to remember which was abundant and which was rare and failed to make notes. :-(

Was it *Connecticut Field* You had male flowers, and probably female as well. The female will have a small pumpkin under the flower but there is only a small window of opportunity to become pollinated, 6 to 8 hrs and honeybees are becoming fewer and fewer. They probably just didn't get pollinated, although the lab did recommend a higher level of potasium than nitrogen or potash.
You can always watch for the females and pollinate by hand.

It was Connecticut Field, but we had lots and lots of bees...the cucumbers had no problem getting pollination accomplished. We went out every morning very early and we just had nearly all one gender flower and only one or two the whole season of the other gender.
Wild bees are all over here, it seems the bee problem is with those bees that are artificially raised.

OT: I'm not sure why these artificially raised bees are being "trucked" all over the place. :-( If the almond trees in CA have flowers, over a period of time, wild bees will reproduce themselves to accommodate this...or is Darwin's theory not applicable to CA?? It puzzles me.
