Huge pumpkin plants last year; no pumpkins

We had only female flowers and only one or two male flowers the whole season. I think we may have had one, one inch swollen flower that may have been a pumpkin but some little creature ate it on about the fourth day of its existence.

Our garden is very shaded but we had tons of female flowers and tons of bees. How do we get male flowers this year?

The variety was Connecticut Yankee (or at least something with Connecticut in the name)from our local feed store.

We have some of the same seeds for this year - should we get a different variety of seed?

Our cucumbers right next to the pumpkin plants had NO PROBLEM...tons and tons of cukes from just 3 or 4 plants.

Soil test shows everything is fine but recommended a 5-10-5 fertilizer be applied.
