Not that anymore is needed, but Tuesday the 2nd, the day before winter came back, i pulled up the loose black plastic that i was using to keep weeds down between rows in my melon/ squash patch, and found tons of melon and squash seedlings, many with their first pairs of leaves, living happily under there, we'd had maybe half a week of truly warm temps (Hi's in the 60-70's) at the end of March.

These things were seriously stocky and even green. Looked better than the ones I usually start inside. Go figure.
