squash pollination?

hopefully this is the right forum for this question. if not, sorry. squash does really good where i am at, but it is my first time growing it. my plants are thriving and healthy. my problem is, i have tons of female blossoms opening, with tons of male blossoms that are not opening yet. in an attempt to save some of the females. i pinched off a couple of the male blossoms that hadn't opened yet and attempted to pollinate the female blossoms. it appeared that the male blossoms contained pollen, but i am not sure if the pollen in them is ready yet.

i know i will find out in a few days, but i figured i would ask. if you guys say it works, i will keep doing it until the males are opening. if it doesn't work, i will stop pulling the non blossoming males off.

thanks for any help.
