Tested direct sowing seeds on 4/8 pumpkin and summer squash

So - back on April 8th when we had our first 60 degree day I decided to direct sow some zucchini and pumpkin seeds to see if they would germinate and grow plants or not.

Obviously - this is super early and along the way we have had several frosts - tons of rain - and snow twice.

Yesterday I decided to plant 2 more seeds of each and dig up the previous seeds to see if they germinated etc...

Well - too my surprise to pumpkin and zucchini both germinated and had roots about 1/2" to 1" long. They were almost to the surface, so I will continue to see if they will grow or not.

This is by no means faster than germinating indoors and moving them outside after, but is an interesting experience to see if I can get these warm weather crops to grow in cold temps.
