I am asian and love gourds they are great in taste and also healthy. I have a problem with the names what we call them there and what it is over here. I bought a birdhouse gourd thinking one of our gourd which is looks like it but does not have that round bottom, its just like longer and bigger cucumbers. Is it edible?

Yes, just keep in mind that those cultivars bred for crafts may not be as tasty as those bred for eating. Most vendors of Asian seeds like Evergreen Seeds will offer a good selection of this type of gourd developed specifically for eating.
