Getting a jump on powdery mildew

Last year I finally got the top hand on the squash bugs and the cucumber beetles. The vine borers still had me doing handstands and cartwheels. With all that it seems powdery mildew has been the least of my problems but still one I wish to battle. The bit I do is buy seeds that claim to be at least a bit resistant but as I have read no pumpkin seems to be totally resistant. I try only to water early so the foliage is all dry by night fall. A few years ago I buried soaker hoses in the patch to keep the foliage dry all together, but it is hard to gauge how much you are watering and in some places the hose kept washing away the soil. Anyone have some home remedies or tips for me? One disadvantage I have is the sun does not hit my patch until 9:30 10:00 a.m. This was absolutely the best I could do with the land I have, believe me I spent much time tracking sun in the yard before establishing my patch. Basically I live in a clearing in the woods.
