Trellis for pumpkins and large squash?

I'd like to trellis all of my cucurbits this year, including pumpkin and squash varieties that might weigh 20 pounds or so. Since I have some spare rolls of 6' tall, 2" x 4" mesh welded wire fencing material, I'm thinking of using that, attached to a "T" stake every 15' and reinforced every 5' by a top-to-bottom (unanchored) 1x3 cedar board. Will that setup be strong enough to hold the vines, and will the vines hold up the fruits?

An alternative would be to use concrete reinforcement mesh for the heavier fruits -- more expensive, since I don't have any on hand, but maybe stronger. It's sold in 5'x10' panels of 6"x6" mesh, which I could anchor with posts end-to-end.
