Help! How Do I Start A Pumpkin Seed?

Hey Yall!

I planted some tomatoes about a month ago and they are growing!!!! I am SO excited, that I went out today (Memorial Day) and bought a watermelon and cantalope plants to plant!!!

I wanted a pumpkin plant, but they didnt have those, so I got the seeds!

I dug a hole in the ground and planted the seeds about an inch deep! Then I sprinkled the ground with that MG shake and feed stuff! But I was wondering how to start the seeds indoors like Ive heard!

Do I have to put the seeds in water first to soften them up? Then put them in a cup of soil and set them on the windowsill?

How DO I grow a pumpkin from a seed? Are they similar to watermelons and cantelope or do I need to go to that forum as well?

You did just fine. You can soak pumpkin seeds before you plant them but it's not necessary. You planted them at the proper depth. Now, water enough to keep the ground moist as deep as the seed is planted. Don't flood, just moist. You should see your seeds sprouting and coming through the soil in 5 to 10 days. Don't worry, seeds are preprogrammed to grow.
Gardening IS fun and exciting. Don't worry about experimenting with seeds. They are cheap and if one doesn't grow it's no big deal, just plant another. You'll learn both from your mistakes and your triumphs.
