Rogue Pumpkin #2

A few weeks I found a random pumpkin growing in my yard. I started watering it and fertilizing it and it's grown in leaps and bounds. So a week ago I found another "random" pumpkin but this one was in pretty poor shape. It was dried out, Earwigs had hollowed most of the stems out. There wasn't much hope for it. But I dug it up anyway to see if there was any hope of salvaging it. I cut back most of the whole plant and put it in a container with so good soil. It already has a ton new root growth. But I was wondering if it even matters? Do you think anything will actually grow back?

And on a side note, I thought it was really interesting about this plant was that 80-95% of the roots where above ground. Its the same way with my other pumpkin. The roots are growing in a kind of "natural mulch" which is just a bunch of eucalyptus leaves.
