Waltham Butternut pollination question

I'm growing winter squash for the first time this year, so I've spent a fair amount of time reading up on it. As I understand it, butternut is in the C. Moschata family and it rarely crosses with any other family, except maybe under labratory conditions. The only other squash I'm growing is in the C. pepo family. The puzzling thing for me is that so far, my butternut squash has only had female blooms. I have three groups of plants with 2-3 plants in each group and only female blooms. But what's even more puzzling is that they aren't aborting. They're growing after the bloom drops off! The largest ones have been growing for about 2 weeks and are about 5 inches long. Did these guys cross with something else or does it take this long before the squash aborts? Thanks for any help you can throw my way!
