female pumpkin flowers are falling off plant

HI< I am a first time pumkin grower and i am having a problem with my female pumpkin flowers are falling off plant. Some have said it because to much water, to little water, or not pollinated. I live in central fla and we have gotting a lot of rain this week. I am growning them for jack-o-lanter with my grandson. Anoughter question is can i trim the vines back. They were over running my garden so I fenced them off with deer netting and now they are overrunning my yard. they are about 8 to 10 foot long. Plants have many male flowers and for the last month about two female flowers a week. I work so I can only hand pollinate. on weekend. Have one really nice female with fruit about 1 inch round. Yes, now that i know that the plants are so large next year they will be in their own 4 x 4 mound away from everything else.
Any information will be helpful.

If I'm wrong I'm sure someone else can jump in, but I was under the impression that if you cut off the ends of the long vines, the sideshoots that begin to grow will have more female flowers.
