Growing pumpkins in clay soil?

TieMint

Hi!

Two weeks ago, I decided to grow my on pumpkins for Halloween. So I picked a spot in my backyard where it's sunny and started digging a 6 ft hole wide and 3 ft deep; on online articles they said that pumpkins take up more suface area then actual depth.

However, one of my jack o latern pumpkins germinated today, so when I moved it from a frosting container to the soil, I noticed that as I dug a hole for it small bits of clay showed up in between the miracle grow potting mix.

What I'm trying to ask is, is it possible for clay soil to push up through the potting mix? And if so would the pumpkin survive growing in clay?
