Pumpkins, Squash & Gourds

Few female flowers

I have four plants that have been in bloom for a couple weeks now but all except one of the flowers is a male. The single female was fertilized and a pumpkin is starting but all the males are dropping. Is it just luck or is there an environmental cause to such a lopsided distribution of male and female?

Normal especially for the larger pumpkins.
