My putting green is artificial grass, and we don't use it. The area has the best sunlight and the most room, we have a large pool and tons of landscape. I usually plant in one area;however the trees are too big this year and take up the sun. I am just hoping that the kiddie pool will do, it is pretty big.

of course you can with,
good soil
fertilizer
controlled watering.

just remember that they will need less water then if they were in the ground. and once the roots hit the bottom they will travel along the bottom, so watch your watering.

container and ground growing are two different worlds. the water in a container is contained and the water in a the ground is distributed over a greater area and depth. which is never used by the pumpkin.

as i said, with the right soil that can retain water and drain. sure there is some evaporation but you get that in the ground as well. thats why most people mulch.

every kiddie pool i've seen are made of plastic, and depeding on the size. how level the ground is. you would need 50 plus drain holes. trev knows alot about pumpkins (more then i will every know)

but i know a little bit about container pumpkins.

yes it was in the swc. i had 2 pumpkins that size and the other one was bigger. the 2 plants would go through 30 plus gals a day. i set up a 5 gal water jug and used it as a i.v. so it wouldt run out of water.

Thank you for all of the information! I feel as though I have adequate drainage...Used my husbands drill with a special head on it. I watered several times and dug to make sure it was draining. It gets HOT here even though we are close to the beach, we are in a valley. My pumpkin vines always have been grown on the AstroTurf, so I know it works. I am posting our pumpkin from 2010. Our 2011 pumpkins did not work out and that is why I decided to go with the pool...Wish me luck and I will keep you posted.
