Do pumpkin/squash seeds need to dry before planting?

I wasn't going to do a lot of gardening this year, but the soil beckons me.

I still have the one Warsaw Buff that I grew last year and it is in perfect shape. I was trying to see how long it would store, but I have already found out that it is AMAZING! It's June 10th and it's been stored in a box in my kitchen this whole time. Nothing else lasted even close to this long.

So now I'm going to cut it open and I want to plant the seeds. Do I need to let them dry first, or can I just put them directly in the ground?

Even though it's hot now I'm gonna bake it and see how it tastes. If the seeds look as if they bred true, then I can share some next year.
