Can you have TOO many birdhouse gourds on a vine?

This is my second year growing birdhouse gourds, last year I only got a few, this year I planted only two more vines and they are growing and producing like mad. I have lots of gourds starting, and quite low on the vines. Is this okay, or would this produce smaller gourds? Should I pinch some off or let them all go?

I suppose you could have too many gourds on a vine, but the thing you need to watch is the main stem of the vine. Keep it pinched back to about 8 to 10 feet. The gourds grow on the lateral vines and keeping the main vine pinched back will allow the gourds to grow better.

the more you have on there, the smaller they will be.
it sure is hard to pinch them off though isn't it?
it's almost like being mean to a baby or something :-)
