Using a seed blanket to growing Pumpkins

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post. I desperately need help with my pumpkins. First, a little back ground. I have not been able to grow pumpkins since we moved to Illinois from Wisconsin around five years ago. The squash bugs have destroyed my vines every time.

I have tried hand picking, Seven and the boards. This year, I bought some seed blankets and covered my pumpkin seedlings in the ground. I went to check on them the other day and the seedlings were too moist and looked terrible, so I uncovered them. What gives? I thought you were supposed to be able to grow plants under the seed blankets? Let me also mention that the blankets are supported, but they may have drooped a bit on to the seedlings. Any advice would be appreciated. I would have 10-12 pumpkins each fall in Wisconsin and now have nothing. Thanks! JoKuehn
