Help squash taking over

Two newbie gardeners here. Among our biggest mistakes was planting pepper plants and squash all together. The quash plants looked like cute little, harmless plants. Now they have grown to take over everything, one vine is over 8 feet long and seems to grow between the morning and evening. They are starting to produce well also we now have 1-2 massive Zucchini each day with yellow zucc coming up, hubbards, spaghetti, pumpkin and others soon to follow.

To help protect the peppers that are intertwined with squash we have been positioning the vines and removing leaves as they cover the pepper plants. Is this doing any harm to the squash? Is there a better way to do the pruning? Any suggestions on how to make the vines play nice? For future reference how do i plant and manage squash to prevent collateral damage?
