Luffa blossoms not opening

bethshotgarden

Hi. I planted luffa seeds in May (I think) and they are growing great, lots of vines, sprouts and blossoms coming. The problem is my blossoms aren't opening. I have some little ones opening on the smaller plants, but on the large vines where the big blossoms are only one has opened so far. The blossoms that are there just stay about 1/4" or less in size and then they turn brown and shrivel up. It is hot here in AZ and I thought maybe the wall they are on is too hot so I put a trellis behind them to move them a way but they are still dying off. I am growing them next to birdhouse gourds which are doing good and producing gourds (I have been hand pollinating).

Also, some of my vines don't even have any blossoms at all - could I be over watering. I had been soaking everyday in the am. It's been humid and hasn't been drying out as much so this week I have been watering every other day.

Thank you. I really appreciate any help!

Beth
