Can a Gourd be pruned / tamed?

gardenquest

for the first time i planted some gourds, fancy mix from burpee seeds. They are not in a garden bed, but along the back of my house, up a trellis, our 6 ft fence,( and over into the nieghbors yard) and climbing our gazebo tent. The vines show no sign of slowing...actually growing out onto the grass and into my bushes and raspberries 10 ft away. needless to say i have them in a bad spot. thye are growing , with losts of fruit .....can i trim /prune them without killing the plant? am i right to assume they will keep growing up until fall? I like them, but i cant let them take over this entire half of the yard. If a can prune, what section/ stem/vine type do i trim? There are many "newer" vines that have new leaves and fruit that are forming as they grow outward.....any tips please to get this plant sort of under control?

thanks
