Question about saving seed/ cross pollination

My squash blossoms are packed with bees, ants, cucumber beetles, and other insects, and I'm wondering if there is some method of obtaining seed true to type from many different varieties when growing in close quarters?

I am growing Waltham Butternut next to another c. moschata heirloom that I'd really like to save seed from. Can you bag female squash blossoms before they open and then hand pollinate from the male flower? If so, what do you use to bag them?
