| I have clusters of red/brown eggs on the leaves on my zucchini, winter squash, and cucumbers, but none yet on my cantelopes. We have hand picked them twice but are having a hard time keeping up as they seem to be multiplying. I have sprayed with neem oil and pyrethrin/rotenone.
Will the neem oil smother the eggs? I assume the pyrethrin/rotenone will control the adults but does it have to get directly on them or do they ingest when they eat off the plant? Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can keep my vine crops from being taken over without so much work? |

| Follow up: This morning I went out and found more eggs and quite a few nymphs so I guess that the Neem oil didn't work to keep the eggs from hatching. I mixed up a batch of Pyrethrin/Rottenone and drenched the plants after scraping off the eggs and dealing with the nymphs by squashing and excising the plant leaves and disposing of them in soapy water. This squash bug egg/nymph, leaf part mixture then went down the garbage disposal. Can anyone tell me if there is an end to this battle? |
