Help! ' Creeping things' on my gourds...

intheozarks

This is my first time to grow these gourds, and things were coming along nicely-- several large birdhouse gourds gaining size. I have used sevin dust 3 times (the dust is still visible today on the surfaces), and just now after watering I found 2 gourds had worms (or are they caterpillars or larvae-- I'm ignorant here)beginning to bore into them. I pulled the worms off, and it does not appear that they penetrated to the inside but there is a surface break in the skin. Can someone tell me first, if these particular gourds are salvagable, and then what to do about the pests to protect the other gourds. Thank you so much.
