Dry, brown pumpkin leaves

I planted pumpkins in my garden for the first time this year and have had no end of problems with them. I bought them from a nursery, and right after transplanting them they appeared to have died (the leaves wilted and appeared soaked with water). I left them be and they grew new leaves and appeared to be thriving, now there are lots of blossoms on them, but no actual pumpkins are forming. When i went to check on them today i noticed that the leaves are dry and brittle and have brown spots on them. Any suggestions ? It would seem to me like they are under watered, but we have had lots of rain here this week and when it's not raining i water the garden every night. Could they be drowning ?
