Almost foolproof and with cheerful flowers, squash comes in a wide range of varieties to plant in spring
Full StoryI have zuc's and I have pumpkins....and I also have very large diameter zuc looking things growing in the pumpkin patch. The coloring looks like a zuc but they aren't growing long...they look more like an elongated football! I also have something that looks like it's going to be a "tall" pumpkin (rather than round) and the coloration is a green and white-ish in more of a striped pattern. I do have a few small round pumpkins growing out of the patch as well.
Did I have a cross pollination incident or are there varieties of pumpkins that are dark green? I've been looking online for pics of pumpkins on the vine and I'm only coming up with orange ones.
For the zuc-looking things... Should I slice one to see what it is? Is it ok to eat a cross-breed?
We got pumpkins from my grandfather-in-law's farm and scooped out the seeds to dry last year. As far as I know, I only planted pumpkins in the patch. The yellow squash and zucs are in another garden about 50 ft away.
Thanks for any advice you can give!! LC Grace
