Yellow leaves on squash

So we moved in a new house a couple of months ago, and we're taking up gardening! At the end of May we planted, among other things, several butternut squash and delicata squash. The all have problems:

The vines of the butternut squash plants grew only up to 6-12 inches in 2 months. Moreover, although the tops are quite green, the bottom leaves are starting to get yellow and fall off. They have sun till early afternoon, day temperature is in the mid 70s and night temperature in mid 50s. I water them about once a week probably around 1". BTW - the tomato plants that are next to them are doing great.

The delicata are starting to get powdery mildew. I sprayed them with diluted milk and that seemed to slow down the disease, but it's definitely not gone. I spray once a week the upper surface of the leaves. Should I spray underneath too? More often? With something else? (I've heard baking soda might work too)
