Yeah that is a good idea if you have the resources. I've seen it done with bigger netting surrounding fruit to keep the birds out. This year I covered some of my pumpkins with netting that had holes no bigger than a millimeter across, far too small for the borers to get in. This thing was in my opinion borer proof, yet on at least three occasions I walked out to find a borer sitting on a leaf UNDER the netting. I was completely stupefied, I knew there was no way they could get in. There were no holes in the netting and they couldn't crawl underneath. So I figured these must have been borers that overwintered in the ground and came up from underneath. If that was true everything would be fine because there was no way they could have mated to produce any offspring. Yet somehow there were offspring and my pumpkins were attacked by the borers. I am done trying to stop them it is too much effort and nothing works short of killing all the insects around. Try it though it is a good idea.

but then how are the bees going to get to your flowers? are you going to hand pollinate them all?
