Something boring directly into pumpkin...

Do SVBs bore directly into pumpkins? Something bored a hole into one of my pumpkins. The remnants are on the blue foam. I scraped it off to see what it was and then discovered the hole. Have had many holes in pumpkins due to mice or deer or bugs chewing but not like this where it leaves this "frass" or remnants. Any one have an idea? Obviously the pumpkin is bad now. I will go out today and cut it open to see what crawled inside. If I find anything out will post later. Darned bugs! Guess the post pic will only let me post 1 pic I will post the pumpkin pic following.

Here is the pic of the pumpkin with the hole. Not the best pic as it is on the underside of pumpkin. As I said guess I will have to go and harvest and cut it open to see what is up with this. Bummer it was the biggest one I had in the patch so far. Started to harvest already do to SVB, squash bugs and cuc. beetles.

Looks like a SVB to me dirty devil! Could not find anything on line about them boring right into the fruit. Not sure what to do about this.

Found one more in another pumpkin. They just bored right in the side not near the stem. I am a bit perplexed as to what to do next year. I may take a year off. I am so full of squash bugs, SVB, and thousands of cucumber beetles. If I did not have bee hives right next to my patch I may have resorted to desperate measures.
