Buffalo gourd (Cucurbita foetidissima)

Has any one tried to grow this in a controlled environment, or up into cooler climates? I know it is a perennial vine in the southwestern states, but the leaves are absolutely gorgeous and I would love to grow it. Having seen tiny plants of it in its native haunts in west Texas, I suspect it would take several years to get a plant with the larger impressive leaves. I have collected several fruits this summer near Lubbock, and hope some are ripe enough to give viable seeds.
