New blooms but too late?

My trellised acorn squash plants are just now producing a lot of female flowers. Some seem to be fertilised and will continue to grow, but I'm afraid it may be too late in the season to get fruit before the cold weather sets in. I live in Holland and I think the climate here is something like zone 7 or 8 in North America. Do any of you experienced growers have an opinion of my babies' chances?

Do you think picking just a couple promising squash and pinching off the new flowers and vine tips might help the select fruits mature faster?

It's been a lot of fun growing these plants and experimenting with the trellising, BTW. I definitely plan on trying it again next year!
