Borer inside my pumpkin

Sigh, picked two of my pumpkins yesterday. Didn't realize that one had a borer in the stem. Now it's gone down inside the pumpkin itself. Can I write this one off? Or is there hope.

Learning so much, this is my first year growing pumpkins.

Sorry I didn't get to this earlier, to reply. You can't get the borer out without cutting the pumpkin. The pumpkin will certainly go bad more quickly because of the borer. But it may last a few weeks, as is.

If you want to use it for food, I'd recommend that you cut and cook it A.S.A.P.
