Volunteer Mystery Melon

Hi, just hoping someone out there might recognize this mystery melon that popped up in my garden. The largest fruit is currently volleyball size and the skin is smooth. It doesn't look like anything I ever remember planting or eating, and I mainly just want to figure out how to tell if it is ripe yet.

Maybe a Tiger (or Tigger) Melon? It could be some kind of cross between varieties. But whatever it is, it should be good to eat! Some melons show they are ripe when the stem slips off of the fruit. I believe all of them indicate ripeness by the smell. You should be able to sniff the fruit and detect a sweet oder when it is ripe. Be careful not to break it off of the vine before it is ready.
