Pumpkins and Melons

Can you grow pumpkins (and other squash) with melons? I've had conflicting advice about this, with some people saying it's fine and others saying it makes the melons taste funny. Any suggestions?

Squash do not cross with melons, so you don't have to worry on that account. Squash in general are a bit more sussceptible to powdery mildew which will sometimes spread to your melons. Vining squash in particular have huge vines which can overshadow melons so you have to be careful about that. A melon that does not get a full days sun will not develop taste.
