lebanese clarinette

Have been getting delicious lebanese clarinette squashes - often the larger, the sweeter. However, suddenly the new ones, still very small, are turning soft and yellow, rather than hard and green like they have been. Watering is the same, I have been using Neptune Fish and Seaweed (maybe it's time to do it again??)- it's been very very hot here - high in the Santa Cruz CA mtns. - but squash usually like that. Any ideas?? In the same bed I have Romanesco zucchini, and once in a while there is a soft one which I toss, but mostly they're doing fine and dandy - by the way, I'm growing them vertically, and they're very happy.
