How about the floor in your pantry or a closet? I have even stored squash under my bed!

There have been years I think I could have written a Dr. Seus book on places I've stored squash!

Sure I could do that, how long will it last in a pantry vs the refrigerator? I don't think this acorn squash will last very long sadly.

Count on two months. It might be longer, depending on the temperature. If you eat them regularly, you'll notice that their texture will be getting more and more stringy/grainy as they near the end of their shelf life. Acorn squash are not meant to be stored too long.

Another idea would be split and bake them, scoop out the flesh and freeze it in ziploc bags. That would last at least two years.

How do they taste post freezing? We had one yesterday and it was very tasty. Not sweet, but very flavorful with a nice nutty taste and not stringy.

Thanks for the help. I see a couple small shiny spots and I wonder how long they will really last.. the skin is tough but not that tough. It is easily edible.

Squash tastes fine after freezing. I haven't done this with acorn squash, so there might be some new twist on it. But all the others taste fine after freezing.
