Freaky-big yellow "kabocha" from last years' seed

Last year I raised some kabocha from the seed of a store-bought squash. This year I used seed from the squash I raised. The fruits this year are yellow and getting much larger than kabocha usually do.

Is this a cross-pollination issue? There are zucchini in the same bed, but as I understand it they won't cross-pollinate with kabocha. There are a few other gardens in the neighborhood, and I'm not positive they don't have other varieties of squash.

Should harvest the squash and age them like kabocha? Or just plan on using them for jack-o-lanterns?
