Goodnes,..... what a gourd.!!! When you harvest this one will you take a picture of it and share it with the rest of us "Gourd Nuts"? How many years have you been at it?, this is my first year and love every minute of it. Hope my crop wil be that big one day. A friend from MO gave me 2 gourds last year, one small one which we took the seeds from but they wouldn't grow. So from the bigger gourd we planted 5 seeds in seperate pots and transplanted them later, only from these we are now proud parents of several medium size gourds and we will make birdhouses out of these.
My 2 sons enjoy them too but not as much as the neighbour kids. They want to check them out at least once a week....LOL. Next year I will plant them on either side of our clothline so they can climb it. It will be a blast for sure.

Marie, this is my second year at growing gourds. They are planted in an old cattle yard so I think that is why I have some good luck with them. I just water and they grow. Alot from last year were not mature, but then again alot were. So we have alot of gourds to work on, and watching and crafting gives the kids and I something to do together. Its just plain fun!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Sandy,
I took a closer look at my gourds last night and took some measurements of my biggest gourds. The biggest one I have is 24" around the base, I got a late start on these too! and to get them growing good I had to start feeding the miracle grow once a month. Not bad for a beginner,eh? They are still growing too. I too grow them just for fun,and I wonder if I could make some bat houses out of them if I cut a hole in the bottom. I guess I will have to do some experiments with them. There are several small once and I will dry them too and probably make christmas tree ornaments. Just having a blast with them, and it will give me something to do at home. Marie
