they kinda look like overgrown yellow squash

Well, I've had the same name given from another source but he said that it could be edible, so I've given it a try and its got a nuttiness to it but a little bland too so I'm going to try saving the seeds and growing them next year - hopefully they might grow bigger as these had very little flesh.

Better grow C. pepo 'Delicata'.
Delicata is a very nice fruit too but a best edible one!
