Bury Vines to Prevent Vine Borers?

I just wonder if it is possible to bury the pumpkin vines, like 4"-5", at the base with mulch to prevent the vine borers. So the adults do not place to lay eggs? We can leave out the leaves to get energy. Possible?

That might help. I don't think it would hurt anything. If you grow a squash/pumpkin from the c. moschata or c. argyrosperma species, then borers shouldn't be an issue anyway. But you will still have to deal with squash bugs. They attack any species of squash.

That's what I do to slow them down. It doesn't completely stop them because they lay eggs on the leaf stalks too. But it certainly helps. That's what I did with my C. Maxima this year, and they did fine, even amidst lots of of SVB.
