The seeds die if frozen. Just store in an air tight container
and put in a cool dark room(ie. basement). The should do fine.

i HAVE STORED DRIED GOURD SEED IN THE FREEZER AND THEY GERMINATED WHEN PLANTED 2 YEARS LATER. SO IT CAN BE DONE. BUT THE QUESTION IS...IS IT NECESSARY? SUSAN IN SOCAL

I had volunteer plants one summer from a gourd that was broken the year before. The seeds were scattered around the yard and I had plants growing all over the place...the following spring...even in the lawn.

I agree tho, it's not necessary to keep them in the freezer. They have a pretty long shelf life.

A great book for seed saving questions is, Seed to Seed by Suzanne Ashworth.
It reads, Gourd seeds will remain viable for six years when stored in cool, dry, dark conditions. It also has the same instructions for watermelons.
Then in Ginger Summits book, Gourds in your Garden, she said dry seeds can be stored in the freezer without affecting germination rate.
Sounds like both work well.
