bad crop of gourds--why?

huggins

This was my first year of growing gourds and they were doing really great for a while. The church next door had an automatic sprinkler that came on ar 6:15 AM and I wasn't aware of it so I had some moldy leaves--it also affected my bushell gourds but didn't show up until right before they were ready to harvest--Now a lot of them have big yellow and brown spots and I am worried about them rotting--also had a lot of problems with the squirrels biting big chunks out of the BIG gourds and they even took some out in the front and ate the whole thing--Do not believe anyone that tells you that Squirrels will not eat or wreck your gourds--I am using the library's computer until I get mine up and running again so it may be a while before I am able to go on line again. I did get some nice gourds (dried ones) at the gourd show this year and have decorated 45 gourds so far. Will catch up again when I am able to get to library--until then--Happy Gourding--Nancy
