I think it would do fine, although you may have to amend the clay soil somewhat to improve drainage. It's drought tolerant, long-lived and rated for zones 3-9.

I intend to try it as soon as I get my hands on some seed.

I'm in zone 5 and I just brought some Prairie dropseed, (Sporobolus heteropsis) seeds. I plan on starting them this Winter and I will let you know how they turn out this season. I have some extra seed if you want to trade me some other kind of grass. LMK

Hostajim -- I could trade you some N. Sea Oats (Chasmanthium latifolium) for some of you extra Sporobolus heteropsis seeds. I also have seeds for various Miscanthus varieties (Adagio, Little Kitten and Morning Light), which may or may not be viable. The Sea Oats I can vouch for because it comes up all over the place around my original plants. I have occasional Miscanthus seedlings that pop up around my larger plants, but only a few.
